Franklin County staff conducted a series of community conversations to share the Rise Together Blueprint, as well as discuss the phases of the blueprint and implementation. The county spoke directly to community members to listen to their perspectives about poverty, their challenges, and what they need for economic mobility. We gained valuable input from residents as lived-experiences are what formed the core of the blueprint.
The collaborative Rise Together Blueprint is the people’s plan. Twenty-one (21) conversations were held with community members and leaders, including more than 200 residents – many who live in poverty.
Additionally, in taking a frank assessment of poverty in Franklin County, the Rise Together Blueprint Steering Committee identified and prioritized the need to be candid and direct about the historic and current role race and racial inequities play in perpetual poverty. The Steering Committee held thoughtful discussions about public policies that have and continue to impact communities of color in Franklin County. The members of the committee understand for change to take place, there must be an effort to disrupt the institutional racism and unconscious biases that continue to permeate the community.
